MBraille: A Mobile Braille Keyboard for iPhone
MBraille is a mobile braille keyboard developed by MPaja Oy. This free app allows users to type, edit, and send tweets and text messages using contracted or uncontracted English braille. With the full version, users can also use braille to call contacts or telephone numbers, send emails, update Facebook status, add calendar entries, perform internet search engine queries, and more.
One of the standout features of MBraille is that the text typed is automatically put to the clipboard when you switch apps, making it convenient for multitasking. The app also allows users to interact with other 3rd party applications, check spelling, save and open text files, sync to Dropbox, and use MBraille as a third-party keyboard.
MBraille fully supports both iPhone/iPod and iPad devices. It is worth noting that experienced blind MBraille users can easily surpass sighted typists using the built-in virtual keyboard.
Support for uncontracted braille is available for Arabic, Croatian, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Norwegian, Polish, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish. UI and braille support are also provided for Czech, Italian, Portuguese, and Slovakian, although help is still missing for these languages. Additionally, braille table support exists for Afrikaans, Estonian, and Romanian, including contractions for Afrikaans.
Overall, MBraille is an essential app for blind iPhone users, providing them with a fully operational iPhone experience. Its comprehensive features and support for multiple languages make it a valuable tool for braille typing on mobile devices.
